National workshop to prepare SESA legislation in Bangladesh

Bangladesh is well on its way to preparing SESA legislation. SESA stands for Strategic Environmental and Social Assessment. This termoniology is sometimes used to to emphasise that social aspects, such as health, safety and social wellbeing, are part of Strategic Environmental Assessment. The first six assessments have been conducted and were presented by their autorities at the National SESA workshop in Dhaka. NCEA was invited to provide a keynote presentation. A total of 45 participants attended. Concluding the workshhop, the Secretary of the Ministry of Environment announced that it will formally initiate SESA legislation. A great milestone for Bangladesh!
