SEA introduction in Burundi
Bujumbura, 3-7 February. The NCEA and environment agency OBPE in Burundi started working on ESIA ten years ago, with longer and shorter breaks when the circumstances dictated so. Nevertheless, the cooperation continues and even expands, since it will include the introduction of SEA.

ESY mapping Mali - strengths and challenges of the ESIA system
Bamako, January 28 - A diverse group of stakeholders in the ESIA process discussed enthusiastically the strengths and challenges of their regulation and practice. By using the ESY mapping tool, it became clear what works well and where improvement is needed.

Recommendations scoping ESIA Water Supply Project - Zambia
Lusaka, 14 January - The NCEA reviewed the scoping report for the ESIA for the Solwezi Water Supply Project. We recommend to adjust several shortcomings in order to ensure a succesful and efficient ESIA process. For example to improve data on alternative water sources. This information is needed to make a well informed decision on the water source for the water supply system.

Priorities for strengthening ESIA in the water sector - Egypt
Cairo, 13-15 January - During a 3-day period, a diverse group of stakeholders in the ESIA process discussed the strengths and challenges of the ESIA regulation and practice for the water sector. They identified for example the need for the development of guidelines and the strengthening of specific ESIA capacities. These outcomes serve as input for our future cooperation programme.
