The Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF) has requested the NCEA to independantly advise on the guidance for legal frameworks for Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA). The NCEA has agreed to this request, convinced that this guidance will contribute to the knowlegde at governmental level on legal frameworks and ESIA in the mining sector.
The IGF is an international organisation that represents more than 60 countries. Its objective is to limit negative impacts of mining activities to ensure that financial benefits are equally shared. The IGF provides guidance, capacity-building activities and training to governments.
