The NCEA and the Nigerien agency for Environment Assessment (BNEE) are working together to contribute to sustainable development. Key topics include improved legislation, professional exchange, and capacity development.

Significant details

Since 2018, Niger has become a partner country of the Dutch ministry of Foreign Affairs. At the same time, the Nigerien agency for impact assessment, the BNEE, invited the NCEA to conduct a mapping workshop and to explore avenues of cooperation for the future. During this mission, in October 2018, the NCEA was able to meet a large number of stakeholders active in the Environmental Assessment system.

February 2019, the NCEA and the ministry in charge of Environment signed a protocol of collaboration, expressing their intention to cooperation on various topics related to environmental impact assessment. Together, the two parties are developing a multiannual work plan, which foresees activities on:

  • Legislation on ESIA/SEA
  • Training of trainers
  • Increasing professional exchange
  • Coaching of an SEA process
  • And of course independent advice on individual ESIAs.
The NCEA is enthusiastic about working together with the BNEE and is looking forward to a fruitful cooperation! We will keep you posted...
