Advice on ToR and governance of the SEA for Minas Gerais State Mining Plan - Brazil

July 15 - The NCEA published its first advisory report for the SEA for the Minas Gerais State Mining Plan and its Iron Ore sub-sector in Brazil. In previous years Minas Gerais experienced tailing dams failures in the mining industry resulting in a few hundred casualties. Therefore, the ministries of mining and environment are now even more dedicated to develop a responsible mining plan and consider SEA - which is not (yet) a legal requirement in Minas Gerais - essential in this process.

All NCEA's recommendations included in approved scoping report - Bhutan

June 30, Thimpu - The Bhutan Environment Commission has included all the NCEAs’ recommendations in their approved scoping report for the Gelephu river rehabilitation project. The recommendations follow from our review of the ESIA scoping report and visit to Bhutan where we held discussions with all relevant stakeholders.

Webinar on Environmental Assessment for Sustainable Development - West Africa

June 3 - The NCEA hosted a well-received webinar entitled Environmental Assessment: an opportunity for Sustainable Development in West Africa? in cooperation with SIFEE and WAAEE. Practitioners from Mali, Guinea and Senegal discussed their cases. The dedicated webpage (in French) provides more information as well as the link to the webinar recording.

Policy brief: How SEA contributed to conflict prevention - Mali

June 15 - The Clingendael Institute, a Dutch think tank on geopolitical issues, and the NCEA, published a policy brief on governance and the role of SEA in the Sourou area, a fragile zone in central Mali. The SEA played an importat role in preventing conflict over scarce resources by strengthening local participatory governance structures.

July 20 - We are delighted to present a new animation on the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment process, as part of a series of six. This animation provides a short introduction (1.43 min) of the screening phase, the 1st step in the ESIA process . This animation and the animation on Scoping are both available in English and French and can be viewed and downloaded from our YouTube channel.

Or dive into Dutch practice, with trending topics such as the nitrogin crises, aviation and energy transition. Unfortunately independent research also showed that Dutch EA practice is under pressure these days.
