The NCEA reviewed studies and associated documents concerning technologies used in tannery clusters in Punjab. It recommended several actions to improve decision-making on the associated project proposals.  

Significant details

On request of the Netherlands Minister for Development Cooperation the Commission was requested to provide guidance on the following:

  • an introductory study into envrionment-friendly technologies for tannery clusters in Punjab;
  • a technical and economic study into combined wastewater management for tannery clusters in Punjab;
  • advice on the project proposals as formulated therein.

The Commission made recommendations for deciding on follow-up activities, on the project proposals included in the studies listed above, and on the possible use of EIA in the decision-making process for such follow-up activities.
On 5 February 1996 this advice has been submitted to the Netherlands Minister for Development Cooperation.
