The Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development of Morocco, and the Dutch Embassy, together with the NCEA, organised an ESY-map workshop in Rabat. The ESY-map is a diagnostic tool for assessing the quality of a national ESIA system. It was developed by the NCEA in close collaboration with the Southern African Institute for Environmental Assessment.
In this workshop, the participants from different sectors analysed the Moroccan ESIA system. It was a valuable opportunity to exchange insights on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and its crucial role in promoting sustainable and informed decision-making across various sectors, including renewable energy. Participants concluded that main aspects that needed strengthening in Morocco are social aspects of EIAs, inter-institutional collaboration, follow-up and finance.
