Coaching SEA for Lake Nokoué - Benin
Benin, 14 December - “We want projects of high quality, and we want processes that are well-managed” the Minister of Living Environment and Sustainable Development, Mr. Tonato said at the launch of Lake Nokoué Improvement Programme. The objective of this Programme is to identify a sustainable development scenario through a process of strategic planning integrated with SEA.

Coaching SEA integrated Masterplan - Bangladesh
Bangladesh, 6 - 8 December - The NCEA joined a mission to the Chalan Beel which is one of the priority areas under the Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100. This region faces multiple challenges such as uncontrolled floods, droughts and the loss of biodiversity. The Dutch government supports local authorities in the development of an integrated Masterplan. This is accompanied by an SEA to ensure stakeholder participation and development of various alternatives.

Advice SEA for Sustainable Development Plan Sankarani Basin - Mali
Mali, 1 December - Seven municipalities around Lake Selinge in the Sankarani Basin joined forces to find a solution to the illegal and destructive gold digging on the lake and develop sustainable alternative options. The NCEA advised on the scoping report for the Integrated Sustainable Development Plan and on the ToR for the SEA which accompanies it. The NCEA emphasised to include in the SEA all major issues for sustainable development. In this way, the SEA procedure can be used for inter-ministerial approval on all aspects of the development of the plan, and not only on the environmental and social impacts.

Advice review ESIA river rehabilitation - Bhutan
Utrecht, 23 November - As requested by Invest International, the NCEA recently reviewed the ESIA for a river rehabilitation project in Bhutan. Uncontrolled sediment mining influences the success of the project. If uncontrolled mining continues it will be a threat to the project. If mining is executed in a controlled manner, it can contribute to the success. Therefore, the NCEA recommended developing a Sediment Management Plan. To include all interests in the development of this plan the NCEA suggested to undertake an SEA.

Recording online: webinar SEA for sustainable hydropower
The recording of the webinar on the subject of "the added value of SEA for a sustainable hydropower sector" is now online. This one hour webinar discusses lessons learnt and recommendations based on an evaluation of SEAs for hydropower development in Asia and Africa. This is illustrated during two presentations, one regarding an SEA for national energy planning in VietNam and another one about an SEA for a regional catchment plan in Rwanda, both including hydropower development.
