Advice on SEA for Turkana, Kenya/Ethiopia
The NCEA has been asked by UNEP and the governments of Kenya and Ethiopia to advise on an SEA which will be done for the 'Lake Turkana project'. This project aims for a sustainable, transboundary solution for hydropower and irrigation projects in Ethiopia and livelihood protection in Kenya. The NCEA's support will include advice on ToR and an advisory review.

Advice on best practice ESIA for ports
The NCEA issued an advice (30 March) that identifies measures to enhance the quality of ESIAs for Dutch port development in emerging and developing countries. Attention is given both to the quality of the information and to the transparency of the process. Recommendations are based on a desk review of eleven recent ESIAs on coastal ports.

SEA for oil/gas in Voltaian Basin, Ghana
The NCEA participated in the launch and pre-scoping workshop for the SEA on oil/gas exploration in the Voltaian Basin in Ghana (29 February-1 March). This SEA process is supported by the NCEA. The events were prepared by the Ghanaian SEA core team and the local and international SEA consultant. They were attended by ca. 75 participants and received widespread media attention.

Stakeholder consultation Rwandan catchment
The NCEA facilitated a consultation of stakeholders from Sebeya catchment in Rwanda (29 February-4 March). This was part of scoping for the SEA for the new catchment plan in this area. It helped to learn about local views of issues and opportunities for the catchment, which is one out of four in the Dutch funded IWRM programme. The four SEAs are coached by the NCEA.
