8037. Cooperation WWF

NCEA will continue cooperation on ESIA and SEA in Suriname, Paraguay and Zambia in the framework of budget support made available by WWF Netherlands (mid 2022- mid 2025). Possibilities in other countries are currently being assessed.

Significant details

Within its strategic partnership with the Netherlands Ministy of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), WWF Netherlands collaborated with the NCEA in its Shared Resources Joint Solutions (SRJS) programme 2016-2020. The focus was on capacity strengthening in Indonesia, Paraguay, Bolivia, Brazil, Suriname/Guyana, Zambia and Mozambique to enable relevant ministries to review ESIAs and carry out SEAs, and to engage and support civil society to exercise its rights to participate in this process.

Late 2021, the NCEA signed a cooperation agreement with WWF Netherlands till 2026. As a neutral facilitator and advisor, the NCEA will support WWF NL and its local partners to build dialogues between government, civil society and private sector parties in the context of decision making on sustainability challenges. This cooperation supports the Voices for Climate Action (VCA) program financed by MoFA. This is part of the Power of Voices strategic partnership with the MoFA and builds on the previous SRJS program. Countries involved in SRJS, in particular Suriname, Paraguay and Zambia have expressed a clear demand to continue working on ESIA and SEA. To enable the NCEA's involvement in these countries (not being MoFA focus countries), WWF NL has made a budget available for 3 years. Potential demands for NCEA support in other countries, such as Peru, and the Dutch Caribean region are currently being assessed.
