8026. EIA SEA for Oil for Development - Cuba
The Netherlands Commission for Environmental Assessment was requested by the Norwegian Environmental Agency to facilitate a training on strategic environmental assessment and environmental and social impact assessment in Cuba. The training - with special focus on the oil and gas exploration and production - took place from 31 May to 3 June 2016 and was attended by 28 representatives from various oil and gas related organisations, the Ministry of Mining and Energy and the Ministry of Environment. The training was funded by the Norwegian Oil for Development program.
Significant details
The workshop was targeted on what an EIA/SEA for oil and gas exploration activities should look like, address, focus on. This implied explanation of the main environmental issues to be addressed in SEAs and EIAs (during different stages – seismic, drilling, well testing etc.). During the training, participants practiced different steps and techniques in group exercises shaped around real life case examples on the oil and gas sector.
