Following an SEA for the mining sector, conducted in 2008, the NCEA was asked to collaborate with the Ghanaian Minerals Commission (MC) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to identify:
- To what extent SEA recommendations were addressed in mining plans and policies;
- Whether recommendations were properly addressed from an SEA point of view;
- Why recommendations were possibly not addressed and how this can be linked to future decisions;
- A way forward for taking environment into consideration in the mining sector.
To fulfill these requests, the NCEA performed a quick scan of the mining sector SEA, and subsequently produced an advice of the secretariat in which the four issues were addressed.
