The NCEA reviewed the quality of an EIA and additional information on environmental impacts concerning a reservoir project in Sri Lanka.

Significant details

FMO asked the NCEA to review the quality of an EIA report for the Deduru Oya Reservoir Project in Sri Lanka. It also asked for a review of the information on environmental impacts in the Investment Feasibility Study (IFS) for the concerned project.

The NCEA issued an advice of the secretariat to fulfil this request. Main comments include:

  • Both the EIA and the IFS document lack essential information, and the EIA was prepared too long before the IFS to contain detailed information on the project;
  • Information in the IFS report is lacking information on certain technical and economic issues;
  • The NCEA recommends that the EIA report is supplemented and offers to advise on ToR for an additional EIA.
