Workshop on the Development of an IWRM Plan in West Burkina Faso

During a workshop in Ouagadougou, water Agencies in Burkina Faso discussed the development of a plan for integrated water resources management (IWRM) of the Samendéni Sourou basin.

One year ago, the idea was to draw up an SEA after the IWRM plan was finished. However, the workshop resulted in the decision to carry out the SEA during the development of the plan. This marks an important step forward, because this timing allows the SEA to effectively inform decisions on the IWRM plan.

A group of thirteen participants, including three Burkinabè water boards, representatives from the Blue Deal, the NCEA and the Burkinabè ESIA agency ANEVE, took part in the workshop. To follow up, the Mouhoun Water Agency requested support from the NCEA in strengthening their capacity on SEA.
