Two SEA events in Indonesia
13 November 2017
In October the NCEA was in Indonesia to contribute to two SEA workshops. In the first, participants discussed options to improve stakeholder participation, which is a current challenge in SEA practice. One option is to expand the regulatory requirements for participation. Another to raise awareness on the benefits of participation. The NCEA and the Dutch Ministry for Infrastructure and Environment shared experiences from the Netherlands.
The second workshop took place in Biak, Papua, and targeted local NGOs and district level government staff. Lessons learnt from SEAs in Indonesia were shared, and then used to make plans for NGO involvement in upcoming SEAs for the midterm plans of the Yapen and Waropen districts. This workshop was part of the IUCN/WWF “Shared Resources, Joint Solutions” programme.
