The NCEA travels with DRR team to Brazil

Brasilia - The NCEA travelled with a Dutch Risk Reduction team to Brazil. The DRR team supports the Ministry of Mines with advice on tailing dams in the mining industry in the state of Minas Gerais. This request for support was the direct result of a tailing dam failure that caused a few hundred casualties earlier this year. The NCEA was asked to present good practice ESIA and SEA cases showing their potential and value for improving governance of the mining sector. The mining authorities are very much interested in the development of SEA to support strategic planning of the mining sector in Minas Gerais.
