New environmental framework law & guidelines for oil and gas sector - Suriname

Suriname is getting up to speed with its environmental legislation. In May the Environmental Framework Law 2020 was approved, with information in chapter 5 on the application of ESIA and SEA (in the law resp. EIA and SEIA).

In addition, the National Institute for Environment and Development published ESIA guidelines for the offshore oil and gas sector. This process was facilitated by the Shared Resources Joint Solution programme, coordinated by IUCN and WWF with technical support by the NCEA.
