Signing MoU - Direction of Control Mining Operations - Senegal

Dakar, Senegal - The mining sector is growing in Senegal, with both formalised and informal activities creating an increasing impact on the environment and living conditions of local communities. In addittion, the number of abandoned mining sites in need of rehabilitation is growing. The newly established Directorate of Control and Surveillance of Mining Operations has received funding from the Senegalese government to pilot rehabilitation of mining sites. The NCEA was asked to assist in ensuring the integration of environmental and social considerations in it's approach. Today, the two parties signed an MoU to this effect.
