SEA for ambitious vision Niger Valley

Niger, Niamey - According to the Ministry of Environment, development is too often project-driven rather than plan-driven. For this reason the Ministry started an ambitious process to develop a Vision for the Niger Valley 2052. The national EA-agency asked the NCEA to coach the SEA for this initiative. Strategic Environmental Assessment is not only a legal requirement in Niger, it also improves planning processes by assuring public participation, transparency and holistic consideration of social and environmental impacts. We were happy to join the first stakeholder meeting to discuss the added value of SEA and the way forward.
