September, Bujumbura, Burundi – after an absence of three years, the NCEA visited Bujumbura to catch up on Environmental Assessment practice with its old partners, such as the Burundi Environment Protection Office OBPE, and discuss the situation with a range of other stakeholders. Three years of relative instability have led to a dwindling investment climate, and therefore, of EA practice. Nevertheless, the OBPE is ready to revive the cooperation and work on a revision of the legal framework and strengthen capacity. The Ministry of Planning is keen to investigate whether and how SEA could help strengthening its planning practice.
