New Environmental and Social Assessment decree - Benin

For Environmental and Social Assessment to be effective, it must be regularly evaluated and updated. This is why the Benin Environmental Agency (ABE) recently introduced their new Environmental and Social Assessment-Decree and Guidance. The most notable new element is the introduction of ‘e-services’, a next step in digitisation of environmental assessment procedures. Various steps such as submission of the terms of reference and processing fee can now be done online. Other improvements include a clearer presentation of the official procedures as well as the explicit requirement to consider climate change, gender and human rights in Environmental Assessment.
