Improving environmental assessment in Mozambique
15 March 2017
Environmental assessment in Mozambique is improving. Several NCEA activities, as part of an MoU with the Environmental Ministry (MITADER), are contributing to this development. For instance, the NCEA advised on a spatial planning law and a biodiversity regulation, and drafted a text for the involvement of independent ESIA experts for category A+ projects. During a visit to Maputo in March, the NCEA discussed these and other activities with its local counterparts. The parties also examined opportunities for improvement of the SEA system, specifically SEA capacity, institutionalisation and the legal framework.
