Ethiopia: NCEA and BRIGHT Project Host SEA Training

24 June 2024

From 18 – 20 June, the NCEA, in cooperation with the BRIGHT project (Basin Management Support for Resilient, Inclusive Growth and Harmonized Transformation) hosted a three-day introductory training on SEA. BRIGHT aims to improve water management in five major basins (Abbay, Awash, Omo-Ghibe, Rift Valley Lakes, Tekeze).

The project is financially supported by the Netherlands Embassy and the E.U. and implemented by the Water and Land Resource Centre (WLRC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE). The workshop was attended by 23 dedicated individuals, from these two organisations as well as Basin Administration Offices, regional Environmental Protection Authorities, and others. The training focused on the integral role of SEA in river basin planning within the framework of the BRIGHT programme, aiming to enhance sustainable water resource management.

The NCEA hopes that this collaborative effort marks a significant step forward in promoting resilient and inclusive growth in Ethiopia's water sector and a sustainable environmental system.
