ESIA & SEA workshops in Suriname and Guyana

Guyana and Suriname aim to improve their ESIA and SEA systems. IUCN-NL, WWF and their local partners want to contribute to this, in the framework of the ‘Shared Resources, Joint Solutions’ programme.

The NCEA was asked to organise workshops in both countries, titled “Making SEA and ESIA work for oil and gas development”. The three-day workshop in Suriname and two-day workshop in Guyana were both well attended by representatives of government, private sector and NGOs. Priorities identified in these workshops were discussed in follow-up meetings in both countries, to plan future ESIA or SEA related activities.
