EIA mapping in Zanzibar
16 July 2014
Oil and gas reserves have been found off the coast of Zanzibar. The Government of Zanzibar wants to tap into such reserves sustainably. EIA and SEA will be important instruments in the management of environmental and social risks of the planned activities. In a government-to-government project the NCEA will be supporting Zanzibar agencies with the implementation of these instruments. The project started this month with an EIA mapping exercise. Different stakeholders jointly analysed the existing EIA system in Zanzibar. The co-operation project will run for 2 years, and is funded by the Dutch government (RVO).
