Egypt: SEA and green hydrogen value chains

17 June 2024

In June the NCEA travelled to Egypt as part of a delegation of the Dutch ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy. This visit was organised in the framework of the Egypt – Netherlands business co-operation on green hydrogen. This relatively new form of renewable energy is considered to be the future fuel for heavy industries, machines, tractors, trucks, ships and aviation.

However, the development of green hydrogen and the processes linked to it, can have negative impacts on the environment surrounding the production facility. The NCEA gave a presentation on the added value of SEA to the development of a hydrogen value chain, as well as an overview of the main environmental and social impacts related to hydrogen value chain development. It was a very interesting visit, in which we learned a lot about the challenges surrounding the production, transportation and value of this new energy source.
