Colombia: ANLA - NCEA collaboration kicks off with ESIA for wind energy
24 June 2024
In February 2024, the NCEA visited Colombia to meet with partners in Bogotá and Cartagena. One of these meetings was with the National Environmental Licensing Authority (ANLA) to discuss collaboration in four specific areas, for which an MoU was signed to start a one-year collaboration.
ESIA for offshore wind energy is a part of this cooperation. ANLA has developed a Terms of Reference (ToR) document for the preparation of environmental impact studies for offshore wind energy projects. These are meant to guide offshore wind energy project developers when they undertake EIAs. They also serve as a framework for ANLA and decentralized environmental authorities to review the quality of EIAs submitted to them for environmental licensing and approval. ANLA asked the NCEA to comment on the ToR. The advisory report is available on request.
The final version of the ToR has been submitted for approval by the Colombian Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MADS).
