Annual Report 2023 is online

Energy and resources was the key theme of 2023 for the international department of the NCEA. At the start of our new ten-year programme, we worked in close collaboration with the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining (IGF) on the environmental and social assessment for the mining industry, and hydrogen production in Mauritania was a major project we were asked to review.

The NCEA in the Netherlands was focused on the various challenges facing the country. In 2023, we made preparations for the Environment and Planning Act, which came into effect as of 1 January 2024 and combines many of the topics involved, from housing to health, from energy to infrastructure, all in the context of climate change.

2023 was also the first full operating year of the Ecological Authority. This organisation, which found its home at the NCEA in 2022, assessed 63 nature conservation analyses at Natura 2000 sites in 2023.
