Advice on guidelines for ESIA on irrigation in Georgia

12 October 2016

October 2016 - GeorgiaTwo members of an NCEA working group visited Georgia (11-14 October) to advise on guidelines for an ESIA. The ESIA concerns a project for rehabilitation of the Zemo-Samgori irrigation system, which was once the largest of Georgia. After a period of deterioration, the Government of Georgia recently started to rehabilitate it. The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) plans to provide a grant to fund this project. The availability of water seems to be a crucial factor for this project. Therefore the NCEA recommends in its advisory report to take water availability as a starting point and develop a number of alternatives.
