Added value of environmental and social impact assessment in city planning
27 June 2023
Best practice from the Netherlands! In this short video, urban planner and senior designer Ruwan Aluvihare explains the added value of Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the ‘Zuidplaspolder’, a city expansion of 8,000 houses at the lowest point of the Netherlands.
Recommended by NCEA, ESIA was applied as an in-depth and creative process. According to Aluvihare, thanks to ESIA, the plans were taken to another level with better solutions for nature connections, biodiversity, mobility, water management and other important environmental elements.
The video is part of the Annual Report 2022 that was published in Dutch last week. A translation of the annual report is being prepared and will be published soon.
