In a four-day workshop in Entebbe, the NCEA zoomed in on the value of SEA in policies, plans, and programmes in the Ugandan context. Together with members of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD), staff from the Ugandan Wildlife Authority, and the National Environmental Management Authority, we explored different facets of Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) to work towards a better understanding of the tool. The main goal of the workshop was to guide the participants towards implementing SEA. A lesson learnt was that SEA should be developed in a timely manner when there is still room for influence.

The main takeaway was that the participants showed a keen interest in the use of SEA. The Health and Safety Department of the MEMD will pursue the implementation of SEA in several plans and policies in the energy and mining sectors. The NCEA will continue its support in this process.
