The NCEA is active in Jordan since 2019, where we started with an ESY mapping workshop to highlight the strengths and weaknesses of the ESIA system. After initial activities around hazardous wastes and climate change, the NCEA and the Jordan Ministry of Environment (MoEnv) signed a Memorandum of Understanding in September 2022 to continue collaboration.
One conclusion in the ESY mapping was that in Jordan a professional community on ESIA exists, but more could be done on professional development and exchange, especially in priority areas like climate and water. In 2022 and 2023, the NCEA organised, together with GIZ, various activities around integrating climate change considerations in ESIAs. Currently, the focus is on integrating water footprint assessment into ESIA processes.
