In February 2019, the Nigerien Ministry of Environment and the NCEA signed a protocol for collaboration (2019 - 2022), expressing their intention to cooperation on various topics related to environmental impact assessment. 

Significant details

Together, the two parties are developing a multiannual work plan, which foresees activities on: 

  • Legislation on ESIA/SEA
  • Training of trainers
  • Increasing professional exchange
  • Coaching of an SEA process
  • And of course independent advice on individual ESIAs. 

In 2019, the staff of the National Office for Environmental Assessment (BNEE) and the NCEA worked in various working sessions on environmental legislation. In addition, later that year a training on the ESIA process was organized. In 2020 the BNEE and NCEA worked together with the Institut de la Francophonie pour le Développement Durable (IFDD) on the development of a guide on taking into account Climate Change in EA. In 2021, the NCEA started coaching of the development of an SEA accompanying the strategic planning proces for the Vallée du Niger. The NCEA helped organize a kick-off workshop in April 2021.
