8029. IUCN-NL SRJS Non-Partner countries
The SEA process, bringing together various stakeholders, may be instrumental in implementing the multi-stakeholder approach that is being promoted by IUCN-NL in its SRJS (Shared Resources, Joint Solutions) programme. The programme facilitates dialogues between CSOs, government and private sector parties. To realise this potential, CSOs need to be trained and assisted to play their role in the integrated impact as-sessment, decision-making and implementation monitoring processes. To this end, IUCN-NL and the Netherlands Commission for Environmental Assessment (NCEA) have entered into a cooperation agreement in order to develop joint capacity-building programmes in a number of landscapes in countries and regions around the world and cooperate on further ESIA/SEA related activities within the SRJS programme. A MoU was signed in December 2016 to formalize the cooperation.
This project code concerns NCEA's involvement in non-partner countries, which will be shouldered by SRJS/IUCN-NL. NCEA's involvement in DGIS partner countries will be shouldered by NCEA's core funding from DGIS. Where relevant, coordination will be sought with WWF-NL, which is IUCN-NL's partner in the SRJS programme.
SRJS Regions or SRJS Countries in which activities can be initiated by IUCN-NL include:
- Guyana and Surinam, Bolivia and Paraguay
- Benin, Ghana (partner countries), Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Mozambique (partner country), Tanzania, Uganda
- The Philippines and Indonesia (partner country)
In the first half of 2017, several needs assessment and SEA introductory activities have been organised by SRJS and facilitated by the NCEA, in Benin, Burkina Faso, Indonesia, Madagascar, The Philippines and Uganda. During a joint workshop, these initial experiences have been evaluated. Based on these initial experiences, the SRJS partners in the respective countries will develop follow-up activities in which the NCEA may continue to provide support.
