7280. ESIA Tilenga Oil Development - Uganda

The National Environment Management Authority of Uganda (NEMA) asked the Netherlands Commission for Environmental Assessment (NCEA) for support in the quality assurance and review of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the Tilenga project. For this review an NCEA working group of experts was composed. The ‘Tilenga Project’ refers to the development of six oil fields within Contract Area CA1, License Area LA-2 (North) and Exploration Area EA-1A in the Albertine Graben, Western Uganda.

Significant details

The review took place from 2 to 5 July 2018 in Hoima, where, apart from NEMA, representatives of various lead agencies participated, as well as two representatives from the Norwegian Environmental Agency (NEA).

The review findings and review approach are documented in a report.
