7208. Agua Grande Coastal Protection - Sao Tome and Principe - D2B16ST01
The Government of São Tomé and Príncipe received a grant (D2B16ST01) from the Government of the Netherlands for the Agua Grande Coastal Protection Project.
Part of the grant will be used to contract a consulting company (or a consortium of consulting companies) to undertake preparatory studies to develop the project.
The Ministry of Infrastructure, Natural Resources and Environment (MIRNA) is the Executing Agency for this project. The Government of São Tomé and Príncipe foresees the need to invest in coastal protection infrastructures. The objective of these proposed works is to reduce the vulnerability of the country's capital, São Tomé, to the risks linked to extreme marine phenomena of climate change by strengthening resilience and promoting the reconstruction of the Ana Chaves bay for tourist exploitation and development of the country.
The possible infrastructures to be set up / rebuilt are:
Breakwaters (5 km)
Protection walls (6 km)
Canoes/marine parks for local fishing industry
Strengthened sidewalks (36.000 m2)
Widening marginal avenue (6 km)
Removal of scraps of vessels (iron pollution)
Air pedestrian crossings
Rehabilitation of the airport road
